I always find it odd that in America, an historic building is but a century old.
It depends on where you are in the United States. In Buffalo, 140 years old would be considered historic because, during the War of 1812, the British burned Buffalo down after the Americans burned down Fort Erie, Ontario. In the Hudson Valley, historic buildings date back to the 1600s. Anything that was in Buffalo prior to the war is gone. In the southwest, there are pueblos that were built between 700 and 1000 AD and are still well preserved. The oldest pueblos that are still occupied were built in 1000 AD. It is an Acoma Pueblo structure in New Mexico. The Acoma Pueblo people are also known as "the people of the white rock." The oldest church in the United States and its territories was built in Puerto Rico in 1521. It is called Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.
