Fun and photography

Today's blog post is about fun. What do I do for fun? Well, for me, documenting the beauty of my environment is fun. Recently, I did a 366-day photography project. The goal of the project was to take at least one picture a day for an entire year. There were days when it was difficult to find something to photograph. Nevertheless, I did manage to take a picture a day for the year. The project helped me to be a better observer of my environment and to always find something beautiful, even in places where beauty is not expected.

So, for me, taking pictures of pretty much anything is fun. It is fun to look at those pictures a day later, a week later, a month later, or ever a year later, and see where I've been on all adventures, big and small.

Some pictures that I take are just for fun, like this one of Norma with a friend who actually calls himself "Santa Claus."

Some pictures are of things that are a bit unusual, such as this vividly red blood orange. How is it that it is an "orange" when it is red?

Another fun thing about photography is in seeing how artistic concepts really apply to the whole world. I am fascinated by perspective, and this picture is a good example of one-point perspective. One-point perspective is a drawing technique that shows how things tend to get smaller, the farther away they are, converging toward a single vanishing point on the horizon. It is a method of drawing something on the page that gives the illusion of being three-dimensional.

It is amazing and fun to explore the dramatic colors of nature. In this picture, there's the combination of orange mushrooms and green grass.

Here is an interesting shape made by nature, one that was visible only when the tree was cut. Notice how the tree trunk has a heart shape.

The fungus among us. Mushrooms come in so many different shapes and sizes. I love to photograph them, even though I will only eat the ones that I "discover" in the supermarket or some other food store.
