The Village Inn

Today's blogging prompt is to share a photograph. Well, maybe two... or three... photographs of... the Village Inn!

You know how, in every town, there's a locally owned restaurant where the food served is scumptious? People who live in the town know all about it, and they take their friends and family there. But people traveling through? They have to do research to find these gems.

On Grand Island, one of the gems is a restaurant called the Village Inn. The owner, Michael Carr, purchased the building in 1988 and turned it into the restaurant that it is now. The location in Grand Island's historic Ferry Village is very delightful. Next door is a house that was once a general store called Tucker's Store. And not only was Tucker's Store a place to go shopping, it was also a place to pick up your mail, as one of several locations for the post office before it moved to its permanent location on Baseline Road. Down the street from the Village Inn are various marinas and a fishing club, as well as the entrance to Beaver Island State Park.

The Village Inn is well known for its soups, desserts, and fish fries. The food is very fresh and all made from scratch. Every day, delicious specials are offered, which include a soup of the day (or two!) and some sort of really decadent dessert. 

A delightful member of the community, the Village Inn has offered its catering services to the Grand Island Historical Society, when it offered a luncheon to kayakers and canoers who participated in Paddles Up! Niagara at the end of July each year. Those luncheons, however, are no more, as Paddles Up! switched to food trucks. In the last few weeks, the Village Inn was part of a fundraiser for the Grand Island High School ice hockey team. Two flavors of the Village Inn's famous soups were sold in quart-sized containers, with the profits going toward the hockey team. I purchased one quart of chicken gumbo and, wow, was that delicious!

If you are on Grand Island and you're looking for a delicious meal, I would encourage you to visit the Village Inn. It is open for lunch and dinner on Mondays through Saturdays. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The Village Inn is closed on Sundays.
