A day in the life of Alice

Today's blogging prompt was write about me, with the title, "A day in the life of Alice." And, now, I have writer's block! Who ever thought that I would have writer's block when I'm talking about... me. Especially when the story is written in chronological order.

I may as well get started at the beginning, with the hopes of writing the block out of existence!

When I woke up, it was still dark because it's January and there are more nighttime hours than daytime. I had to chase the sleep from my eyes. My natural inclination would be to sleep because it feels weird to wake up while it's still dark. Sort of like waking up in the middle of the night.

By the time that daylight had chased away the darkness, the sky was gray and the back yard was covered in water. It had rained for several days straight, and a heavy clay soil does not absorb water very well. It was time for a simple breakfast of cream of rice cereal, cooked in almond milk and light cream. The yummy additions to the cereal were golden raisins, a small red banana, hemp seeds, and flax seeds. Add a cup of tea and... voila!... breakfast for a busy morning!

Today was my turn to serve the food and beverages at coffee hour at church. Fortunately, I didn't have to do that by myself! I have a teammate named Dawn.
She came in her vehicle to pick me up. Inconveniently, as soon as she arrived, I discovered that I couldn't find my keys. I searched every spot that they could have been hiding until I located them, hiding very nicely in my purse. All right. I suppose that I can eliminate "private detective" from any future career plans that I might have had.

Churchtime is a flurry of activity, which includes choir practice, the actual church service, and coffee hour. Today, a baby was baptized.
The little girl seemed to be rather vocal in her likes and dislikes of all that was going on. She wasn't all that excited about having the wet hair that came from squirming while getting baptized!

Coffee hour involved putting food on serving plates and placing them on a table. We offered cheese, cracker, pepperoni, cookies, kettle corn, and a veggie tray. Then there was the usual beverage choices: coffee, tea, and juices. The cookies that Dawn and I brought were unusually easy to prepare. We had purchased cookie dough from a high school band fundraiser. You have to keep the cookie dough in the freezer. When the time comes to bake the cookie dough, you just place it on your tray and bake for about 12 to 14 minutes at 350 degrees. Within half an hour, all of my cookies were baked! And that included time for pre-heating the oven!

After cleanup, it was time to go home.
The rest of the day, I spent relaxing with a book and the newspaper. The book that I am currently reading is called "Bear Town," by Fredrik Backman. It is set in a town that is in the middle of the woods. the town is described as very inaccessible. The only thing that anyone seems to do is to play hockey, coach hockey, watch hockey, or parent a hockey player. All of the kids play hockey. And they are good at it, in a variety of ways. Hockey is life, and life is hockey.

So I started this blog post with a meal, and I will end it with a meal. Dinner consisted of tilapia, a baked potato, and steamed broccoli. Yum.

Once again, the sky is dark. I remember when my nephew was a little kid, he asked me why the sky was dark at night. I told him something about how, when the sun sets where we are, it rises somewhere else, that there was only one sun so we all had to take turns enjoying it. My nephew, who has always been much more practical than I, suggested installing a flashlight in the sky.

My nephew is an engineer now.

So... I leave you with a flashlight to guide your way through the darkness. See you tomorrow!

What a way to start a work day - reading all about nutritious food. We in upstate New York definitely need a flashlight in the sky. Thank you for bringing us into your world.

I love your "day in the life" story, Alice! You ate a nutritious breakfast and dinner, which is important. Funny how your starts good, but can quickly take a down-turn when you lose your keys! Yikes! But like you, I end up finding them in the wrong place...where they should not have been in the first place! LOL I should wind down my day with reading a book instead of watching TV. Pretty sure it would be better for me.

I have Beartown too, but I haven't started it yet. Let me know how you like it.

I lose everything in my purse. And the third or fourth time I dump everything out, I find whatever it is wasn't in there.

How exciting to follow your day with you. I love the ending about your nephew mentioning putting a flashlight in the sky!
